Blades, Ratchets & Bits — How to Choose Your Parts
Every Beyblade X combo is three decisions. Here's what each part actually does, and how to make the three decisions work together.
The Blade — your weapon (about 60% of the combo)
The blade is the metal top layer and carries most of the weight, shape and personality of your combo. Blade shape decides how you interact with the opponent:
- Attack blades (Dran Buster, Impact Drake, Tyranno Beat) have few, aggressive contact points that transfer maximum knock-out force — at the cost of recoil and stamina.
- Defense blades (Leon Crest, Knight Fortress, Tricera Press) spread many small contact points around the rim to deflect hits.
- Stamina blades (Wizard Rod, Clock Mirage, Brachio Whip) are round and rim-weighted for the longest possible spin.
- Balance blades do a bit of everything — great first blades.
The Ratchet — your chassis
The ratchet sets height and burst behaviour. Its name tells you both numbers: a 3-60 has 3 protrusions at 60 (low) height.
- Height (55–85): low = stable and hard to get under (good vs attack); tall = better angle for hitting down on low opponents, but a bigger target.
- Protrusions: more protrusions generally means more clicks of burst resistance; fewer means lighter and lower-profile but easier to burst.
- Safe starters: 3-60 (all-round), 9-60 (stamina, max burst resistance), 4-60 (defense).
The Bit — your tires
The bit is the tip that touches the stadium, and it decides your movement pattern:
- Flat family (F, LF, R, A): full-contact tips that race around the stadium and grab the Xtreme Line. Attack.
- Ball / Orb family (B, O, DB, FB): smooth, low-friction points that park in the centre and out-spin everyone. Stamina.
- Needle family (N, HN, UN, BS): stable points that resist being moved. Defense.
- Hybrids (P, U, T, H): in-between behaviour. Balance.
Putting it together: 3 proven starter recipes
- Pure attack: aggressive blade + low ratchet + flat bit (e.g. Dran Buster 1-60 F). Hunt Xtreme Finishes.
- Tank: defense blade + mid ratchet with high burst resistance + needle bit (e.g. Leon Crest 9-60 N). Survive and score on your opponent's mistakes.
- Spin king: round stamina blade + low ratchet + ball bit (e.g. Wizard Rod 5-60 B). Drop launch, centre, outlast.
Don't guess — simulate. The Combo Builder grades any blade + ratchet + bit combination on six axes, tells you its archetype, and shows which meta combos beat it. Build all three recipes above and compare.
